The incident occurred at a crossing within Norfolk Southern's Rutherford Yard facility, near South 63rd Street, between Derry Street and Grayson Road in Swatara Township at approximately 7:45 a.m., county and railroad officials told Daily Voice.
No injuries have been reported, and responders are currently addressing the situation on-site.
The Swatara Township Police Department has confirmed that the incident is under investigation by Norfolk Southern Police. Commuters are asked to avoid the area while cleanup and safety assessments are underway.
